lift plow sign, and the why of the curious telephone pole...
The old telegraph or telephone poles are no longer in use but their tripod shape is interesting. It's too difficult to pound a telephone pole into the frozen tundra so the tripod almost floats on top. The three legs of the tripd can all pivot so as the tundra's surface thaws, freezes, and shifts the lines remain intact. The tripods are a constant companion all through the tundra.
